Daikin Recalls Humidifier into Chinese Market Will Frustrate

On February 7, Daikin Corporation of Japan announced that its home-used humidifiers sold in 2009 and 2010 will implement free replacement services because of potential safety hazards. This incident involved a total of 174,000 units of products, all of which are concentrated in the Japanese market.

It is no coincidence that some of Daikin’s domestic “dehumidification purifiers” are not safe. In the past year, Dakin Air Cleaner had also experienced accidents caused by the prolonged operation of the equipment. The explanation at that time was that a part after the filter was problem.

For the recall incident, Daikin said it has received two reports of “smoke and ignition” incidents in this series of products. This series of products are air purifiers with dehumidifying and humidifying functions. The cause of the accident is that when the machine is operating in the dehumidification mode, the dehumidifier surface may ignite the resin components inside the machine as the temperature increases.

As the market share of air-conditioning refrigeration in Japan has always been the first, is the world's only multi-national corporations that integrate R&D, production, and sales of air-conditioners, refrigerants, and compressors. Recalls have been reported by many media outlets.

According to Japanese media reports, Daikin Air-Conditions intends to use infiltration operations in China to expand its production scale. The company’s largest factory in China will be completed in Suzhou in the future. The new plant was started in July 2011. In April this year, it will start producing energy-efficient inverters. Daikin will focus on Suzhou and strive to build an intensive production line for all its Asian production facilities.

China's air-conditioning market is fiercely competitive. However, in the face of this recall, Daikin will undoubtedly receive a certain impact on the brand. It remains to be seen whether its infiltration operation will achieve its goal of entering the Chinese air-conditioning market. However, it is undeniable that Japan's Daikin's recall of the 174,000 "except humidifiers" will undoubtedly hinder its footsteps in the Chinese air-conditioning market.
