It is understood that the waters surrounding Macau include important waterways such as Hongwan Waterway and Kuanhekou. Ships in this water area are intensively navigable, with daily water traffic volume of 200-300 ships, many types of ships, complicated water traffic, and accident-prone waters. Last year, the ships entering the Pearl River Delta and the Xijiang River Basin via the Hongwan Waterway were unfamiliar with the waterway conditions and restricted draughts, which caused 18 ships to run aground.
With the development and construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Zhuhai Hengqin New District, the number of ships under construction in this water area has increased from 50 ships per day to nearly 200 ships per day, an increase of nearly 400%.
In order to ensure the safe holding of the two major events of the Asian Games and the air show, the Zhuhai Maritime Safety Administration also sent an additional on-site supervision and patrol law enforcement boat, and arranged for maritime law enforcement personnel to monitor and guard on-site throughout the day.
