Ultrasound has some physical properties similar to light:
(1) The propagation of ultrasonic waves is similar to light, follows the laws of geometric optics, has reflection and refraction, and can also focus, so these properties can be used for measurement, positioning, flaw detection and processing. In the propagation, the speed of the ultrasonic wave is the same as the sound wave;
(2) The wavelength of the ultrasonic wave is very short, which is equivalent to the geometry of the transmitter and the receiver. The ultrasonic wave emitted by the transmitter does not diverge in all directions, and becomes a beam with a strong directivity. The shorter the wavelength, the stronger the directivity. Ultrasound is used for flaw detection and underwater detection. It has high resolution and can distinguish very small defects or objects.
(3) It is possible to generate narrow pulses in order to improve detection accuracy and resolution. The pulse of the detection signal is required to be extremely narrow, but the pulse width is generally several times the wavelength (it is technically difficult to generate a narrower pulse), and the ultrasonic wavelength is short, so that it can be used as a narrow pulse signal generator;
(4) Power is high, and ultrasonic waves can generate and transmit powerful energy. When the sound wave acts on the object, the molecules of the object also move with the vibration frequency and the frequency of the sound wave. The higher the frequency, the faster the molecular motion speed, and the energy obtained by the object is proportional to the square of the molecular motion speed. The ultrasonic frequency is high, so it can give a large power.
Ultrasonic level sensor installation points:
When the transducer emits an ultrasonic pulse, it has a certain emission opening angle. From the lower edge of the transducer to the surface of the medium to be measured, there shall be no obstacles in the area radiated by the transmitted ultrasonic beam. Therefore, the installation of the tank should be avoided as much as possible, such as: ladder, limit switch , heating equipment, brackets, etc. It must also be noted that the ultrasonic beam must not intersect the feed stream.
When installing the instrument, please also note that the highest material level must not enter the measurement blind zone; the instrument must be kept at a certain distance from the tank wall; the instrument should be installed as far as possible so that the transducer's emission direction is perpendicular to the liquid surface.
