With regard to simple column loudspeakers, in 1930 Wolfe and Malter first discovered that vertical array projections produced greater directivity in the vertical plane. In 1940, Olson discovered through the study the interaction of three main variables (number of sound sources, spacing of sound sources, wavelength of frequency), the narrower the acoustic beam becomes when the frequency is higher, which is later called the line array effect. .
