ATA

ATA is a widely used standard for IDE and EIDE devices. ATA is an abbreviation for AT Attachment, which means additional equipment on an AT computer (remember the IBM PC/AT?). ATA allows users to easily connect hard disks on a PC. The ATA standard has gone through seven generations of standards since 1994 and is now briefly described as follows: ATA-1 (1994): is the earliest IDE standard. ATA-2 (1996): EIDE standard, supports PIO3, 4 and DMA 1,2 transmission methods, maximum data transfer speed is 16MB/s. ATA-3 (1997): Introduced SMART and security features, no new transmission standards were developed. ATA-4 (1998): The famous "UDMA33" standard. New ATA commands and protocols have been introduced, with a maximum data transfer speed of 33MB/s. ATA-5 (2000): Added some new ATA commands. The maximum data transfer speed is 66MB/s. ATA-6 (2000): UDMA100. ATA-7 (2002): UDMA133.
