New car video system can realize perspective function
Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, have built a prototype of an augmented reality system that allows drivers ’vision to" penetrate "solid walls, road turns, and dangerous trifurcations. If the system further enhances scanning capabilities , You can achieve Superman's see-through eye function.
According to reports, this augmented reality system prototype uses two cameras. One camera captures the scene directly observed by the driver, and the other camera scans and captures images of objects behind the retaining wall. The image of the object behind the retaining wall is output by the computer, and the output image is superimposed on the directly observed image, so that the retaining wall looks "transparent". This device allows the driver to "see" the image of the object behind the wall with a slight "glance". Yaser Sheikh and his colleagues at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and his colleagues have also developed a set of software that will not distort images of moving objects. The team eventually hopes to install this augmented reality system in the car. The on-board video processor can receive the wireless signal from the hidden image captured by the roadside camera and simultaneously project the hidden image onto the windshield. It is reported that this project was funded by Denso, a manufacturer of auto parts in Kariya, Japan.
Bruce Thomas of the University of South Australia in Adelaide said: "Looking forward, this reality augmented system will be very attractive."
Many cities now have closed-circuit television system networks that can provide continuous hidden images. Sheikh said that the system can be supplemented by taking images through a camera installed on the car. Through the software, the research team integrated the image of the car camera and the image of the CCTV system network and input it into this reality augmented system. But Thomas added that before this technology is applied to highways, it must have fast and powerful data processing and communication capabilities, so that real-time and effective work can be carried out on moving cars. Researchers believe that this system will be used in different places in the near future.
