The multi-function charger introduced in this example has the characteristics of simple circuit, easy material selection, etc. It can charge nickel-ion battery, nickel-hydrogen battery and alkaline battery, and can charge up to 4 batteries at most. The battery can automatically stop charging when it is fully charged.

Circuit working principle:
The multi-function charger circuit is composed of a power transformer T, a rectifier bridge stack UR, a three-terminal adjustable integrated regulator IC, transistors V1-V4, light-emitting diodes VL1-VL4, resistors R1-R9 and a potentiometer RP. After the AC 220V voltage is converted to 6V pulsating DC voltage by T step-down and UR rectification, one way is directly added to the anode (positive electrode) of VL1-VL4 as the charging voltage, and the other channel is used as the charging reference voltage after IC voltage regulation. Before charging, adjust the resistance of the RP and set the output voltage of the IC (VouT). When charging a nickel-plated battery and a nickel-hydrogen battery, the VouT voltage is adjusted to 1.5V; when charging the alkaline battery, the VouT voltage is adjusted to 1·7V. After the rechargeable battery·GB1 is mounted, the transistor VL is turned on, VL1 is turned on, and GB1 starts charging. When the voltage at both ends of GB1 is charged to Vout -0~5V, VL is cut off, VL1 is extinguished, and GB1 charging is over. The charging principle of GB2-GB4 is the same.

Component selection
R1, R6-R9 select 1/4W carbon membrane resistor or metal membrane resistor for use; R2-R5 selects 1W metal membrane resistor for use.
Rp uses a multi-turn wirewound potentiometer.
VL1-VM selects high-brightness LEDs of φ3mm.
UR uses 1A, 50V rectifier bridge stack.
VL-V4 selects C8050 or S8050, 3DG8050 silicon NPN transistor.
IC selects 1M317 type three-terminal adjustable voltage regulator integrated circuit.
T selects 3W, the secondary voltage is 6V power transformer.
