Dr. Zhou Mingjun pointed out that the post-lighting era is particularly challenging for upstream chip manufacturers. The upstream chip products are becoming less and less differentiated in terms of technology and manufacturing, and each company is expanding.
For the chip industry, which direction should we go in the next 10 or 20 years? Dr. Zhou Junming shared the future development of Jingyuan Optoelectronics in the field of LED chips for the audience.
Dr. Zhou Mingjun said that in the LED aspect, Epistar will focus on lighting and display applications. In addition, in addition to LEDs, we have also seen some new growth engines, hoping to open up another world.
As far as the whole LED is concerned, many people in the industry estimate that the compound growth rate will be about 4% in the next 5-6 years. The lighting is still growing, mainly because the application of small pitch continues to flourish. The backlight is actually in recession. The reason is very simple. On the one hand, the price is getting lower and lower. Now TV is big size, 2K, 4K, 8K, curved surface application, etc., the application of backlight is less and less, so the backlight is in Continued recession. Others have some invisible parts that will continue to grow. But there is a new type of application that is MiniLED and MicroLED. If you add both, its compound growth rate is twice, from 4% to 8%. "So, I think the LED industry is still very promising." Dr. Zhou Mingjun said.
Efficiency is still a great driving force for the evolution of lighting. Because efficiency is constantly improving, the general requirement is cost-effective. In fact, efficiency is still growing every year, and prices are declining year by year. However, with the rise of human lighting, the color temperature of different human physiological cycles has been developed, which can be changed from warm color to cool white, or cool white to warm white. The CSP and COB methods can achieve this effect.
When it comes to smart lighting, LEDs used to provide high-quality and efficient lighting. However, Dr. Zhou Mingjun believes that the LED street light in the future may provide a 5G base station connection. The speed of 5G is very fast, but the transmission distance is very short, so it is the best. The way is to rely on the lamp post of the street lamp as the conduction of the base station. From here, Dual-Iunction IR has also been developed, and Epistar has even developed solar panels for III-V semiconductors.
Next is the display section. Taiwan entered the OLED field relatively late, but Taiwan introduced a design that uses MiniLED as a professional grade monitor. Therefore, in addition to the application of MiniLED on the movie screen, it is very important that the application of backlight, from mobile phones, tablets, to Monitor, is an important application trend in the future.
In terms of automotive lighting, driverless driving is a trend in the future of car development, but there is still a long way to go. The scene lighting in the future car will become more and more interesting. Now many car manufacturers are thinking about how to do scene lighting in the car. In fact, the scene lighting has to use RGB three colors. Therefore, there should be more opportunities for scene lighting in the car in the future.
In fact, in addition to the display, there is also an application of optical communication. Generally speaking, the data center is transmitted at a very fast speed. Of course, it is short-distance, and long-distance is based on optical fiber communication. This short-distance Data Center is adopted. 850nm, 940nm band. It will grow faster and faster in the future.
Dr. Zhou Mingjun pointed out that non-LED is another area that can grow rapidly. Jingyuan Optoelectronics hopes to use III-V optoelectronic components, covering RGB, even to infrared, to ultraviolet, and covering all bands from infrared to ultraviolet. In the infrared, the photoelectric is mainly at 850 and 940, so the concept of a full-band is very important, and the full-band has been achieved in the LED part. In addition to LEDs, Epistar also achieved the core capabilities of a full range of III-V semiconductors, using lasers and even solar applications. We believe that this is the full range of capabilities of III-V Semiconductor, which will give the entire industry more opportunities.
