SDN forwarding engine based on FPGA open process

Blogger Greg Ferro posted a short blog post about Corsa Technology on his Ethereal Mind page, mentioning Corsa's SDN forwarding engine based on an FPGA-based open process. Ferro also briefly discussed whether this engine is suitable for WANs networks. For data center LANs and WANs, there are operational differences in network architecture management. Ferro writes that for data centers, very little packet loss is perfectly acceptable at high speeds and low latency, but not for WAN. Therefore, Ferro believes that SDN WAN is a major development trend in SDN/NFV, and Corsa Technology is positioned to address some of the application scenarios in which FPGA technology is applied.

According to Ferro's briefing, Corsa Technology's SDN-based forwarding engine is mainly used in the WAN data plane. WAN applications require the data layer to have some flexibility to adapt to the changing requirements of the WAN. In another article written for the SDNCentral website, Craig Matsumoto mentioned that compared to using an ASIC or a general-purpose processor to handle open processes, Kossa's move to Xilinx FPGAs will be more useful and effective.
